Abstract

This study investigated student awareness of food security, food waste reduction, and sustainable food practices at four major universities in Quetta, Pakistan. A structured interview schedule was used to collect data from 40 participants (10 from each university). Results showed a concerning lack of formal training on food security (24%) and sustainable food practices (19%). While a significant portion of students acknowledged food waste (78% think about it at least occasionally), only 30% had attended workshops on food reduction. Despite this, a strong interest in attending future food waste reduction events emerged (91% likely or very likely). The data suggests a need for increased educational initiatives to bridge the gap between student awareness and university action on food security and waste reduction.
